I am so grateful that people think of the twins but even their grandparents bought them 0-3 month B/G matching outfits when clearly my son was much bigger then my daughter. I have gotten so many outfits that she can wear but he can't. Or he can wear and she can't. My daughter who is 5 1/2 months can still wear newborn clothes! I have tons of winter 3-6 month outfits that she has never even worn. Oh and I too got cute little columbia fleece jackets. In 12 months! Hee Hee!

THANK YOU! I love it! I may link back to this post when it comes time for the boys' birthday party!

I found myself after Christmas this year standing in line at Babies R Us returning clothes. The sales girl asked "was there anything wrong with them?" I had to reply "No. Except that they are size 3T and my children are 5 months old." Everyone in line was hysterical. But honestly! I am not a storage facility. Since I didn't have a gift receipt I had to take store credit which I turned around and used what we really needed that month which was more diapers - haha!

Oh, I can so relate to this. I received so many newborn size short sleeved onesie w/matching pants outfits for our babies. While they were very cute, they were also impractical, as my babies were born in November, and weren't going to have a lot of use for short sleeves during one of the longest winters ever. Add to that, my boy/girl twins have similar size difference as yours do. My girl is just now fitting into 3-6M size (but pants are always loose in her waist), and our big boy is fitting into 6M size. Thankfully, we always get gift receipts!

Great post!

HW: in a word, yes. A gift receipt is never a bad thing. The recipient may never put it to use, but better to have the option. If it's an outfit they'll never wear (for whatever reason), maybe they'll find another $12 outfit that they will.

I've definitely learned that people like to buy girls impractical but beautiful dresses. I have so many that she will probably never wear. I always buy her pants outfits because I know everyone will buy her dresses. I now buy jammies and sleep and play outfits for babies because I know it's what we use the most.

I constantly buy clothes babies and toddlers whom I know. I’m almost always spot on with sizes and season is never a question but what about the gift receipt; I rarely buy clothes at regular price, give it two weeks and the adorable outfit from babygap that your child is going to wearing a handful of times and vomit all over, is half off, do I still include the receipt? Do parents really want to bother returning a $12 outfit?

If I know the new parent well -I also take into consideration if they have big or small babies...or babies that grow slow or fast. That helps in figuring the season along with the size.

Parents of other toddlers are fantastic about this ... they get the practical clothes, with the gift receipts, and always say "Please send us pictures of the girls in these or whatever you exchange them for." Perfect! The grandparents in our family, with the exception of my MIL, are NOT good sources on sizing. My mother sent us 3T clothes for Easter (our girls are 2 and wear 18m), and then compensated by following up with 12m clothes for their birthday. My MIL laughingly notified me that she just assumed that they would wear the same size shoes as their age (toddler size 2; they're in a size 6) until her sister suggested that the shoes looked rather small. *sigh*
